SERP Position does not collect, send or sell personal data or your searches. It has no analytics, no account and no user identifier. Everything it shows is read from the results page you already have open.

Permissions and why they exist

  • storage — to save your settings.
  • activeTab, tabs — so the popup can talk to the open Google tab.
  • It only runs on Google results pages: google.*/search. Nowhere else.

What the extension stores, and where

Everything stays in your browser. Your settings go into Chrome's own sync storage, so they follow your profile.

How many results each page of a search had is kept locally, as a fingerprint of the search rather than its text. It is deleted after six hours, and at most 40 searches are kept. This is what makes the numbering continue correctly from one page to the next.

The last downloaded copy of the selectors file (see below), with its date.

Connections the extension makes

This is the complete list.

  • Selectors file, from serppositions.com. At most once every 24 hours the extension downloads https://serppositions.com/selectors/v1.json, a public file that is the same for everyone: the rules it uses to find the results on a Google page. It lets the extension keep working when Google changes its layout, without waiting for an update. The request carries no cookies, no identifier, no searches and no settings. Like any web request, the server sees your IP address, your browser (user agent) and the time; these stay only in the web server's standard technical logs, which are rotated automatically and not used for anything else. If the download fails, the extension uses the copy it ships with.
  • Google, only if you turn on “Show 20/50/100”. It requests the next pages of results from Google — the same request your browser would make if you clicked through to them yourself.

Nothing else leaves your browser.

The forms on this website

The contact form, the “tell me when Pro is ready” form and the uninstall survey store exactly what you send (your email if you give it, your message or answer, the page language and the date), and for the survey, the extension version and language. They are kept in a database on this website's server and a copy is sent to my inbox (Gmail), so I can answer.

To stop abuse, your IP address is not stored: only an irreversible fingerprint of it, used to limit how many messages can be sent per hour.

This data is used only to answer you or, for Pro, to send that one email. It is never shared or sold. Ask at the contact page or by email to have it deleted, and it will be.

This website

No cookies, no analytics and no third-party scripts or fonts: everything is served from serppositions.com. Your light/dark choice is remembered in your own browser (local storage). If analytics are ever added they will be cookie-free and aggregate, and this page will say so.

The uninstall survey

Since version 1.9, when you remove the extension Chrome opens a one-question page on this website asking why. The address only carries the extension version and the browser language. Answering is optional, and what you send is handled like the other forms above.
